And just what are your long term pay prospects Gaz? Since your blog shows you’re in IT I wouldn’t be surprised if you found yourself on double that in a few years term.

Unless Sandwell pay their refuse collectors a heck of a lot more than Birmingham does, I suspect that the quoted figures are probably inclusive of things like overtime, performance bonuses &c.
As it happens, I worked (from August 1996 to October 1998) for the same company Gaz now works for. They’re known for poor pay and high turnover of staff (we averaged a leaving party every 2 weeks, out of a workforce of 70 staff, when I was there). I’m now on more than twice what I was on when I left them with better terms and conditions.
