Longbridge over again?
Earlier this years Marconi attempted to move into the Chinese market. Now, after shedding staff and being lobbied by Coventry council (who have already been hit by the general winding down of the British motor industry) over further losses in it’s Coventry plant, Marconi looks likely to be bought out by the Chinese company it tried to partner with.
The similarities with the failure of the MG Rover plant at Longbridge, down to the actions of the DTI, are chilling.
How much more of the industry and intellectual property of the West Midlands can we allow to be shipped to China?
