The new kid.

Good evening, Birmingham! And a hearty hello to the rest of the Metroblogging cities, whichever timezone you’re in. My name is Hazz, and this is my very first entry in this here brummieblog. I’ll be here moaning about how things ain’t what they used to be, or posting news about cool events coming up in the Second City. Maybe just random stuff I’ve found online, or the odd pic or ten. Starting now with the not so thrilling news (couple of months old, sorry if you’ve already seen it) about re-development of New Street Station.

This is a mock up featured here. Looks cool, huh? And long overdue, I reckon. Hopefully they can give Digbeth Coach Station a bit of a make over, too. I go there roughly once a month, and it’s pretty embarrassing when you compare it to stations like Victoria in London. Staff are a bit nicer in Brum, though.

Off to see Birmingham’s finest football team, Aston Villa (ducks stones from lurking Bluenoses) play the mighty Walsall FC tomorrow. Wish us luck!

As long as whoever failed to design Snow Hill isn’t allowed near the project it can only be an improvement to New Street Station.

I think we’d also need to keep out whoever came up with the road system outside Moor Street (even the council’s own transportation department hate it) and the designer of the Big Blue Turd (i.e. the Bull Ring).

Personally I think that all New Street reallyneeds is a good clean, expand the concourse further over the platforms (get rid of the ticket barriers, there’s already three ways in and out of the station that let you get onto and off the platforms without going through a ticket check), more electronic information boards and ground level access from New Street itself.
