A man has been shot dead outside a Birmingham nightclub.

Fifty officers have been drafted in to investigate the killing, which police said happened outside Air in Digbeth in the early hours of Saturday.

Detectives said it was not a random attack but that there was no evidence it was gang-related. At least five shots were fired.

The victim was a local man in his 30s. It is the first fatal shooting in the city this year.

It is not thought the dead man had been inside the club, which was leased out privately on Friday night.

A large entertainment event was being held at the venue, and officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
