Events Galore!

Rah! As you may have noticed, there is now a plethora of events listed in the right-hand menu bar! I had always assumed that we needed to add the events to upcoming.org ourselves in order to get them listed, however the feed is actually pulled from the Birmingham Metro listings. For some reason there are TWO Birmingham (UK) Metros on upcoming.org, the second of which (at which we were previously pointing) is far less popular than the other.

So the bottom line is we’re now pointing at the correct Metro, and when you click to add an event via this website the event will automatically be added to said Metro for all to find / see.

Yay!

McBoudicca?

I found a great story on the Beeb today which suggests that ancient remains found down next to a McDonalds in Kings Norton (south Birmingham) could be those of Queen Boudicca! While there doesn’t seem to be any real evidence to support the theory that it’s her remains, it’s pretty funny to think that such a poignant icon from ancient history could have keeled over while waiting at the drive through for her happy meal.

Also have a look at the Sun’s coverage of the story, which has a great mock-up of “McBurgercea” (image not shown here for copyright reasons).

WaterAid Campaign

This isn’t Birmingham-centred at all, I just wanted to get the word out :)

IKnit, in conjunction with WaterAid, have started a petition to raise awareness of global poverty and the lack of accessibility to clean water and sanitation. This is a petition with a difference! Instead of a signature - knit a blue square, 15cm x 15cm! They will be sewn together, and taken to Downing Street. There’s more information on the links above.

I’ll be taking part, I’d like to knit more than one, I think.
