I hate reading stuff like this, especially when Birmingham is a great city.
A man has been shot dead outside a Birmingham nightclub.
Fifty officers have been drafted in to investigate the killing, which police said happened outside Air in Digbeth in the early hours of Saturday.
Detectives said it was not a random attack but that there was no evidence it was gang-related. At least five shots were fired.
The victim was a local man in his 30s. It is the first fatal shooting in the city this year.
It is not thought the dead man had been inside the club, which was leased out privately on Friday night.
A large entertainment event was being held at the venue, and officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
Anyone who has travelled buy bus in Birmingham in the last few years may have noticed that some bus stops have had electronic notice boards fitted in them. For the past three years or so these have had nothing more on them than a message that soon these will be showing the time the next bus shall arrive.
Birmingham and Travel West Midlands recently announced that they will be putting these boards to their intended purpose on the number 11 route. The 11 route is the outer circle and , at 27 miles, is the longest urban bus route in Europe. It is very prone to bunching up such that one can wait for a very long time and have as many as a dozen buses (rather than the proverbial three) appear together.
The buses will be fitted with GPS style satelite tracking system that will not only feed information to 200 the display boards around the route to inform passengers of the expected arrival time of the next bus but will also allow for buses to be held or rerouted to minimise bunching.
Eventually this system will be rolled out onto other routes.
A man arrested at a Birmingham station under anti-terrorism laws will not face any charges, a West Midlands Police spokesman has said.
The man was arrested at Snow Hill metro station in the city centre on Friday.
He was reportedly carrying two suitcases which were checked by explosives officers.
The station was evacuated shortly after 1800 BST and reopened two hours later. A spokesman later said the incident was not suspicious.
Insp Phil Milton, from British Transport Police, told reporters later that the packages were not found to be suspicious.
“The bomb disposal team have been and checked and found it to be safe,” he said.
He revealed that the alarm was raised by an off-duty officer who saw a man and believed his behaviour to be suspect.
The man, said only to be an adult who had travelled from London, was on the tram at the time.
Asked if the arrest was connected to the London bombings, the officer added; “as far as I know its wholly unconnected.”
The arrested man has been interviewed by officers but will not charged with any offences.
Part of Snow Hill station is below ground level.

Above the North West corner of the Council House, towering above Chamberlain Square, stands the Council House Clock, one of the landmarks of the city centre and affectionately known as “Big Brum”.
A plaque on the wall beneath it reads:
Council House Clock
The clock in this tower indicates Greenwich Mean Time on the first stroke of the hour bell
The minute hand moves forward on the completion of each half minute
My (second) favourite website about Birmingham is the Birmingham - it’s not shit site. Plenty of home-grown humour, as well as lots of famous Brummies!
Oh, and it links to Birmingham’s song, a wonderful operatic number which rouses us Midlanders into…well going to the pub, mainly.
…Birmingham means home (ham) of the people (ing) of the tribal leader Birm or Beorma
As we’re all still new and shiny, I thought it might be quite a treat to inform everyone of some little known facts about Birmingham.
